FFXIV: Gladiator and Pugilist Updates!

Today the FFXIV official website received a small update on the Gladiator and Pugilist jobs. We all knew Glad was a tanking class and Pugilist would be much like a the Monk of FFXI, but this did give us a good look at what weapons will work for these classes! Gladiators can use one hand swords, two hand swords, and shields. Check it out on the official website, because they have a few different kinds of each, and the artwork is naturally well done. Pugilist our hand to hand combat class gets a variety of fist and claw weapons, and the description confirms they are skilled with throwing weapons! Info continues to be steady for a game that we don’t know that much about, but with rumors of beta access with the purchase of limited edition copies of FFXIII, I don’t think it will be long before we have some solid game play footage and beta sign ups.

Continent of the Ninth

Continent of the Ninth is one of the many many new MMORPG’s being developed, but it looks like it may be a bit different from the rest. C9 looks like it will have a strong hack and slash play style. You could potentially compare it to PSO but it is much faster with real combos that branch off each other depending on different key inputs. Check it out!

The overall game play experience looks extremely fun and refreshing, being able to take on a dozen enemies solo should keep the pace going pretty smoothly. At the same time I am curious if there will be dungeons that will give the players a challenge and require a good amount of skill. By now the game should be in open beta in Korea already, and that being said there is currently no launch date for NA or EU.

Daigo wins “Seasons Beatings 4″ SFIV

Daigo, the Japanese champion of SFIV has once again taken victory, but not without a fight. Justin Wong defeated Daigo in the winners bracket using Fei Long against Daigo’s Ryu which was one of the most exciting sets I have seen to date in SFIV. Winners Finals

Daigo fought his way through losers against against Joe “ILOVEU” and went to face Justin Wong yet again. Winning the first set 4-2 Daigo had clearly adjusted his style and was now able to understands Justins Fei Long. Daigo rising in confidence took the final set 4-1 and won the event.

PS3 Cross-Game Voice Chat

When it comes to the console wars, online play has obviously become one of the biggest factors that decides which console to own or which console to buy a game for. PS3 has been at a disadvantage against the 360′s vast online community but now they may have a fighting chance. Not only has the PS3′s sales jumped with the PS3 Slim and the price drop but it is rumored that they will have a new “Cross-Game Voice Chat” built in to the new firmware. The freedom to speak to your friends while you play whichever game you like should prove to be a big jump for the PS3, but let’s just hope this is for real.

Battle.net & WoW Account merger mandatory by Nov. 11

“A few months ago, we unveiled the Battle.net account, our new way for players to log in to World of Warcraft and future Blizzard games, sign up for upcoming beta tests, shop the online Blizzard Store, and more with just one username and password. This was just the first step in the rollout of the brand-new Battle.net; in the future, players will be able to use Battle.net to participate in cross-realm chat in World of Warcraft, create real-life friends lists, communicate across different games, and a whole lot more.

In preparation for the launch of these new features, on November 11, 2009, all current World of Warcraft players will be required to merge their World of Warcraft accounts with a Battle.net account in order to log in to the game. As our way to say “thanks” for taking a moment to go through the process, existing World of Warcraft accounts that upgrade to Battle.net (including those that have already switched over) will receive a brand-new penguin in-game pet — check for him in your in-game mailbox later this week. Starting on November 11, all World of Warcraft players will need to log in to the game using a Battle.net username and password, and anyone who wishes to create a new World of Warcraft account will need to start with a Battle.net account.

For awhile now it has been pretty obvious that this was coming, and here we have it. It’s really the same concept as PlayOnline except it will actually be done correctly and utilized. I am just glad to hear that FFXIV will not be using PlayOnline.

PAX East 2010

After the success of PAX 2009 (Penny Arcade Expo) they have already announced their next convention! This time they will be headed to Boston, MA. PAX 2010 will be March 26th-28th 2010, and you can expect mountains of video game merch, a free play room, tournaments, and pretty much everything else. What will it cost you? Pre-Registration will be $50 for a 3 day pass, more or less the standard for these kinds of cons.

FFXIV: New Pictures, Trailer, and a newly revamped website!

At GamesCom 2009 in Cologne Germany, Square Enix unleashed massive amounts of information for us to fill our brains with. Showing off the alpha of Final Fantasy XIV and unveiling the combat system, the game is looking rather promising. Graphically the game is beautiful just like any other Final Fantasy and Tanaka made note that the graphics would improve even further as the development continues.

Here is what we know about the game so far.

The game is scheduled to launch in 2010, and it will have a simultaneous launch worldwide. (4 Versions)
There is currently NO autoattacking
There is currently NO jumping
There is currently NO swimming
There will be instanced quests and missions called “Guild Leves”
Guild Leves will be different for each Nation
There will be Weapon and Profession specific Guild Leves
Tanaka stated that swimming and climbing may be be added to the game, but he does not feel the game requires jumping
Skill caps are in effect in the same purpose as a level cap
Armor will have skill requirements, meaning each weapon type will have a specific gear path.
There will be much more variety in the armor throughout the game
There will be much more variety in the monsters throughout the game (hooray no more beating on a crab for 10 minutes at a time zone after zone!)
The game will be largely story driven, English voice acting has been confirmed. (expect incredible cutscenes)

Information has been pretty steady so expect updates pretty often, but with what we knows already they are in no way trying to follow WoW in terms of game play where the focus is Raiding and PvP. This will be a true “Final Fantasy” story driven with impressive graphics, music, and everything that gives off that awesome vibe. I think this game will be one of those games you REALLY want to play with a group of friends and experience the world together. Granted it’s only in Alpha, PvP and raiding could very well be in the final product.
